Journaling - Day 28 of NaNo

Total Word Count: 42, 717

Yes, by now I'm sure you're used to the fact that I'm behind. Between Thanksgiving and the nasty cold I've had that just refuses to go away, it's been tough catching up. I'm gonna have to really crank it tomorrow and the next day to finish on time. Frankly, I'll be glad to get it over with and get back to work on Son of the Shield, Falls the Shadow, and my bevvy of other projects.
One thing I've learned from this NaNo: I am totally an action writer, and I really don't do well when there's not a lot of action going on. Last year during NaNo I got to write naval battles and shipwrecks and invasions and last stands and espionage and kidnapping and escapes and plots and... yeah, you probably get the picture. This year, all my characters will do is sit or stand around and talk and think. And no matter what I do, they just won't do anything else. It's to the point now where I'm beginning to get very disgusted with all of them.
But, I only have to put up with them for two more days, and then I can get back to work on other things.
How's it going for everyone else? Have you reached the finish line already? Are you going to make it before the end of the month?

  1. That's interesting ...I usually write thinking and talking a lot better than action!

  2. Mary, just wanted to say what a great story this is, that your characters are just sitting or standing, thinking or talking this time around with NaNo.

Best wishes. Hope one of these guys surprises you.

  3. I HOPE I can make it. I also have had a cold that knocked me out for a day or two, but really, I don't have an excuse to be so far behind. I've had plenty of time on my hands, done word wars with my sis, and one of my writing buddies has been behind me encouraging me the whole month. Well, I'll give the 30th a run for its money! I hope you win! Keep it up!

  4. Exact opposite with me. I'm a character writer and I love writing thoughtful scenes, but my action never comes together. All right, I can pull in a nice chase scene. :P But that's it.

  5. Drop a bomb. That should liven things up.

  6. LOL, I read this post and it was like reading my own thoughts. My characters have done nothing all month--despite my attempts to add in an explosion, some bandits, a lot of fire, and even a horse with colic. Still, I've managed to pull through to the end and unless something goes terribly wrong this evening, I should be set!

  7. That's the spirit, KayJ.
And the rest of you booking it towards the finish line too! Keep going!
